Moeraki boulders are half way between Palmerston and Oamaru, about a five minute drive from Moeraki township itself which can been seen roughly two kilometres away to the south.  These round balls of rock are birthed from the clay cliffs that back onto the beach and are made of mud, fine silt and clay bound together by a cementing compound in the ground. A natural wonder only seen in this area.

These can be very frustrating to photograph if you don't time it right, but if you can 'wow'.  The tide is the critical part of it all and timing this with the sunrise which is the best time for photographing the boulders. You are pretty much guaranteed to get at least wet feet and possibly a lot more at this amazing place.

Then there is the township itself. A beautiful little fishing village in the bay which is on the north western side of Moeraki point, a magnificent cafe and restaurant, fishing boats anchored in the harbour and an old derelict wharf with shags dotting it.

Katiki Point Lighthouse, also known as Moeraki Lighthouse has a wonderful array of wildlife including the Yellow Eyed Penguin (if you are lucky), seals, many sea birds and the little Blue
Penguin. Along with a massive view of Shag Point at the southern end of Katiki Bay.
